Peter G. Kirchschläger

Prof. Dr. Peter G. Kirchschläger is a Full Professor of Theological Ethics and Director of the Institute of Social Ethics (ISE) at the Faculty of Theology, University of Lucerne. He holds additional roles as Visiting Professor at ETH Zurich’s AI Center and Visiting Fellow at the Global Ethic Institute, University of Tübingen. His academic journey includes studies in Theology and Philosophy at the Universities of Lucerne, Zurich, and Rome (Gregoriana), with a PhD (2008) and Habilitation (2012) in Theological Ethics. He has held visiting positions at Yale University, the University of Chicago, and others.

Research focuses on theological ethics, social ethics, AI ethics, and human rights. He advises national/international bodies, including the Swiss Federal Ethics Committee on Non-Human Biotechnology (ECNH) and the Ethics-Advisory Board of Smart Lucerne. His media presence includes BBC, ZDF, ORF, and publications like the New York Times and Project Syndicate.

He leads the Institute of Social Ethics (ISE) and coordinates the Master’s Program in Ethics. His advisory roles span ethics in technology, human rights, and religious studies. He has received fellowships from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and other institutions.
