Peter Fulde

Prof. Peter Fulde was an emeritus Director and Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden. He held academic positions including Full Professor at Frankfurt University (1968–1971), Adjunct Professor at Technical Universities of Darmstadt (since 1973) and Dresden (since 1995), and Distinguished Professor at POSTECH, Korea (2007–2013). His research focused on condensed matter physics, superconductivity, and quantum many-body systems.

Education: Studied physics at Humboldt University of Berlin, Göttingen, and Hamburg, with a doctorate from the University of Maryland (1963). He contributed to foundational work in electronic structure theory, superconductivity in thin films, and strongly correlated electron systems.

Research interests included frustrated lattices, quantum phase transitions, and wavefunction-based methods for large systems. His articles explore topics like action function theory, high-field superconductivity, and spin-orbit interactions.

Scientific honors include the Leibniz Medal (2006), Order of Merit of Saxony (2007), and multiple honorary professorships and citizenships in Korea. He served on committees of international scientific organizations, including the German Physical Society and the Korean Institute for Advanced Studies.

His career included leadership roles at Max Planck Institutes and advisory positions for advanced research institutions in Germany and Korea. He co-founded the Max Planck Institute for Physics of Complex Systems and held presidencies in Asian-Pacific theoretical physics initiatives.
