Professor Peter Frankopan is a leading scholar in Global History and Byzantine Studies at the University of Oxford. He holds the position of Professor of Global History and directs the Oxford Centre for Byzantine Research. As a Senior Research Fellow at Worcester College, he has contributed significantly to interdisciplinary research on the Byzantine Empire, Late Antiquity, and the Silk Roads. Frankopan's academic journey includes studies at Jesus College, Cambridge, and a D.Phil. from Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He has held visiting roles at Princeton, Leiden, and the Getty Center.
His research explores Byzantine historiography, the spread of religions, and imperial ritual, with a focus on Eurasian exchanges and the legacy of the Silk Roads. Frankopan is a Fellow of multiple prestigious societies, including the Royal Historical Society and the Royal Geographical Society.
