Peter De Bolla is Professor of Cultural History and Aesthetics at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of English, where he has held academic positions since 1987. He also serves on the Board of Management for The Re:Enlightenment Project at New York University and directs the Centre for Digital Knowledge at CRASSH, University of Cambridge.
His educational background includes a PhD (1983), MA (1982), and BA (1979), all from the University of Cambridge. Previously, he served as Reader in Cultural History and Aesthetics (2005-2009), Senior Lecturer (2003-2005), and Lecturer at King's College Cambridge (1987-2003).
De Bolla's research spans eighteenth-century cultural history, philosophical aesthetics, and digital humanities, with particular focus on William Wordsworth, the Enlightenment, and European art history. His interdisciplinary approach bridges historical scholarship with contemporary digital methodologies, examining how cultural concepts evolve across time periods.
His notable honors include the Distinguished International Visiting Professorship from the Australian Research Council (2013) and the Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship (2007-2010). He has also served as co-investigator for Arts and Humanities Research Council projects at Tate Britain.
