Professor Peter Davidson holds dual roles at the University of Oxford: Stipendiary Lecturer in English at Jesus College and Senior Research Fellow in Renaissance and Baroque Studies & Curator of the Campion Hall Collection at Campion Hall. He teaches in the English Faculty and collaborates with the History of Art department. His academic background includes a BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Cambridge, followed by an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of York.
Research focuses on cultural life of the Recusant Catholic community, Jesuit intellectual history, and intersections of literature with visual arts. Key interests include exile, recusancy, landscape studies, and Baroque-era cultural production. Notable publications include The Last of the Light (2015), Distance and Memory (2013), and The Idea of North (2005). Recent projects involve editing St. Robert Southwell’s complete verse and reconstructing James Byres’ treatise on Etruscans.
Recognized as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, his work bridges historical scholarship with creative writing about landscape and environment. Current initiatives include curatorial responsibilities at Campion Hall and collaborative editions of early modern texts.
