Dr. Peter Berendzen serves as Department Head and Professor of Biology at the University of Northern Iowa's College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Fisheries (Ichthyology) from the University of Minnesota with additional degrees from the University of Kansas.
His research program investigates evolutionary relationships, speciation mechanisms, and biogeographic patterns in freshwater fishes. Recent publications examine genetic adaptation in changing environments, morphological diversity in endemic species, and conservation genetics of aquatic organisms across North America and East Africa.
Analysis of 15 recent publications reveals methodological strengths in landscape genomics, comparative morphology, and population-level analyses of freshwater ecosystems.
