Peter Bennett

Peter Bennett is a Senior Lecturer in Post Compulsory Education at the University of Wolverhampton, affiliated with the Faculty of Education, Health, and Wellbeing. He serves as Award Leader for the BA (Post Compulsory Education) program and Joint Award Leader for the MA in Professional Practice and Lifelong Education since 2018. His academic work spans textbook authorship, editorial leadership of the Routledge Research in Media Education and Literacy series, and interdisciplinary exploration of media, education, and culture.

Research interests focus on media literacy, critical theory, and resistance in education, with publications addressing topics like working-class education, postdigital knowledge, and decolonial pedagogy. His 2013-2022 publications include Barthes’ Mythologies Today (Routledge), Doing Text: Media After the Subject (2016), and Identity and Resistance in Further Education (2018). Recent 2020-2024 work explores co-created curricula, educational anxiety, and student empowerment through creative assessment.

As co-editor of the Routledge Research in Media Education and Literacy series, his work bridges media theory, educational practice, and cultural critique. Teaching responsibilities include L6 modules on educational mythologies, critical theory, and dissertation supervision, alongside leading the Inclusive Education module for LEAP/Foundation programs. Publications reflect his commitment to anti-managerial pedagogy and poststructuralist educational frameworks.
