Peter Anthamatten is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography & Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver. His work bridges geography, environmental health, and spatial thinking, with a focus on how physical environments influence children's health behaviors.
- Education: PhD in Geography (University of Minnesota, 2007), MPH in Environmental Health (University of Minnesota, 2002), MA in Geography (University of Minnesota, 2001), BA in Geography, German, and Political Science with honors (University of Missouri, 1997).
His research centers on health geography, examining built environments and children's physical activity, as well as geospatial education initiatives using National Geographic's giant maps. He also contributes to GIS applications in health sciences and environmental studies.
Recent publications highlight his work on treeline ecology, PFAS water sampling prioritization, asthma exacerbation mapping, and innovative cartographic methods. His teaching includes courses on GIS, health geography, environmental health, and sustainable development.
