Peter Alegi is a Professor in the Department of History at Michigan State University, affiliated with the College of Social Science. He specializes in African and South African history, particularly the intersection of sport, politics, and society. His notable works include Laduma! and African Soccerscapes, examining football's role in colonialism, apartheid, and postcolonial identity. He co-edited volumes like Africa’s World Cup and South Africa and the Global Game.
Alegi teaches courses on South Africa, African history, and global football. He has advised PhD students on South(ern) African and sports history. His awards include the Fintz Award for Teaching Excellence and the Sullivan Teaching Excellence Award.
