Peter A. Hall is the Krupp Foundation Professor of European Studies at Harvard University's Department of Government and a resident faculty member at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies. As a leading comparative political economist, his research examines the interplay between politics and economics with a focus on institutional analysis, inequality dynamics, and the socioeconomic foundations of populism.
Hall's research investigates the evolution of growth regimes in developed democracies, the political economy of welfare states, and the institutional foundations of political economies. His current work analyzes changing electoral coalitions in Western democracies and the economic/cultural determinants of populist support. His research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine historical and contemporary political transformations.
Hall's extensive publication record demonstrates consistent focus on political economy, institutional analysis, and comparative politics. His recent work examines the shifting relationship between capitalism and democracy, socioeconomic determinants of health inequalities, and the evolution of growth strategies. His scholarship maintains strong thematic coherence while expanding into populism studies and electoral behavior analysis.
