Klenow's research focuses on macroeconomics, particularly economic growth, productivity, innovation, trade, and development economics. His work examines the dynamics of creative destruction, resource misallocation, and the measurement of economic welfare beyond GDP. He has made significant contributions to understanding how firms grow, how innovation drives economic progress, and how trade affects productivity.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on contemporary economic challenges including climate change impacts on growth, the effects of e-commerce on retail markets, racial disparities in economic well-being, and the relationship between innovation and market power. Klenow's work consistently bridges theoretical modeling with empirical analysis using large datasets.
