معرفی
Dr. Pete Haswell is a Lecturer in Conservation Science at Bangor University within the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences. He is actively involved in research on wildlife ecology, human-wildlife coexistence, carnivore conservation, and environmental philosophy. His work bridges empirical science and ethical inquiry, with field research spanning Croatia, Idaho, and the Mojave Desert.
- PhD in Biology, Bangor University
- Postdoctoral experience at University of California, Davis
- Member, Royal Society of Biology and The Wildlife Society
- Advisory Council Member, International Wildlife Coexistence Network
- Research Collaborator, Croatian Large Carnivore Project (since 2010)
Dr. Haswell's research interests are centered on conservation science, carnivore ecology, and behavioral responses to predation risk. He investigates how species interact under human influence, with a focus on mesopredator behavior, nonlethal conflict mitigation, and habitat restoration. His recent work explores the spatiotemporal dynamics of endangered rodent communities and the role of restoration in invasive species control. He also integrates environmental ethics into conservation, advocating for reduced consumption and cultural shifts toward sustainability.
The most recent publications reflect a strong trend in ecological interactions, conservation conflict resolution, and ethical dimensions of environmental science. His work combines field observation, experimental design, and philosophical analysis, contributing to both applied management and theoretical understanding in conservation.
Notable scientific contributions include:
- Development of nonlethal strategies for wolf-sheep coexistence in Idaho
- Research on fear-mediated behavior in mesopredators
- Advocacy for ethical consumption and intergenerational equity in environmental policy
- Leadership in camera trapping methodology for behavioral research
Dr. Haswell mentors graduate students and collaborates internationally. He has contributed to conservation education through guest lectures, seminars, and public outreach, including writing for Wolf Print magazine. His research is supported by collaborations with conservation NGOs and academic institutions in the UK, USA, and Croatia. He is also involved in reviewing for major journals such as Journal of Applied Ecology, Conservation Letters, and Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
His work is conducted within interdisciplinary teams and often involves field-based studies on predator-prey dynamics, human disturbance, and restoration outcomes. He continues to lead research on the Amargosa vole and broader implications for desert ecosystem conservation.
