Pete Duncan is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminology at The University of Manchester, focusing on digital trust and security microcredentials. His ESRC-funded PhD (2020–2023) examined tax minimization in UK professional football. He holds a MRes Criminology (2018–2019) and BSc Marine Biology (2008–2011).
Research interests include financial crimes (money laundering, tax evasion, fraud), cybercrime, drug policy, and digital technologies' role in crime. He is a founding member of the Manchester Organisational Non-compliance Initiative (MONI) and an Early Career Associate at EUROC. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Key publications analyze illicit activity in football ownership structures and organized crime via online gambling. He has published blogs on fraud in sport and furlough fraud.
