Perry de Valpine

Perry de Valpine is Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management at UC Berkeley. He holds a PhD in Ecology from UC Davis (2000) and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Yale University (1993). His research develops mathematical models and statistical methods for complex ecological systems, with focus on computational frameworks for hierarchical modeling.

Research includes ecological applications to bird communities, forest dynamics, species distributions, and population ecology. Leads development of NIMBLE statistical computing platform for Bayesian analysis. Directs the de Valpine Research Group investigating population dynamics and computational statistics.

Teaching responsibilities include courses on ecological modeling and statistical computing. Maintains active research program bridging ecology, statistics, and computational methods.
