Perry Bickel

Perry E. Bickel, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he joined the faculty in 2012. He serves as Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and holds the Daniel W. Foster, M.D., Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine. His research focuses on lipid droplet biology and its implications for diabetes and obesity treatment.

Dr. Bickel’s research investigates cellular fat storage and utilization mechanisms, particularly lipid droplet dynamics in diabetes and obesity. His lab aims to develop safe therapeutic interventions targeting these processes.

Publications span lipid droplet biology, insulin signaling, and metabolic diseases, with key contributions in lipid metabolism regulation (2021-1997). Awards include Best Doctor in America and D Magazine Best Doctor recognitions.
