Per Ingvar Olsen

Per Ingvar Olsen is a Professor in the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at BI Norwegian Business School, where he has been employed since 1991, progressing from Research Assistant to his current professorship. He also holds significant positions at Oslo University Hospital as Professor and head of research at the Center for Connected Care (2019-2023), and is a Partner at Scaling LAB AS (2023-2025).

His educational background includes a Ph.D. Dr. Oecon. from BI Norwegian Business School (2000), and dual Master of Science degrees from the same institution (1992, 1994). He previously served as a Visiting Researcher at Haas School of Business/UCB in 2007-2008.

Professor Olsen's research focuses on the intersection of business networks, innovation management, and healthcare technology. His work examines how organizations and networks interact to drive innovation, particularly in complex sectors like healthcare. He investigates boundary objects in network interactions, the role of controversy in medical technology adoption, and how global medical innovations are adapted to local contexts. Throughout his career, Professor Olsen has held leadership positions including Head of Department (2001-2005) and Constituted Director for Research and Academic Resources (2005-2006) at BI. His research has been supported by collaborations with major healthcare institutions including Oslo University Hospital, where he led research on connected care solutions.

He is actively involved in applied research through the Center for Connected Care at Ullevål hospital and through Scaling LAB AS, where he focuses on practical implementation and scaling of healthcare innovations.
