Per F. Broman is a Professor of Music Theory at Bowling Green State University's College of Musical Arts. He holds degrees from Ingesund College of Music, The Royal College of Music (Stockholm), McGill University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Gothenburg. His research focuses on music theory, musicology, film music analysis, and Swedish musical history. Broman has authored biographies of composers Sven-David Sandström and Karin Rehnqvist, edited volumes on music theory, and contributed to journals like Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy and Perspectives of New Music. His work bridges classical, contemporary, and popular music, with notable studies on Ingmar Bergman's films, Woody Allen's use of Bach, and the philosophy of music in media. He has taught at institutions including the Swedish Conservatory, Örebro University, and Butler University. Broman serves as a NASM accreditation visitor and founded the journal STM-Online.
His research interests span aesthetic theory, transformational analysis, and interdisciplinary approaches to music. Recent projects include studies on Bergman's cinematic soundscapes and contributions to volumes like The Last of Us and Philosophy. Broman’s work emphasizes the interplay between theoretical rigor and cultural context, making him a key figure in Nordic music studies and pedagogical innovation.
