Per Aagaard is a Professor in Experimental Biomechanics at the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, University of Southern Denmark. He holds affiliations in the Research Unit of Muscle Physiology and Biomechanics. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Copenhagen (1998), an MSc in Exercise Physiology (1991), and a BSc in Mathematics (1984).
Research focuses on neuromuscular adaptation, muscle physiology, biomechanics, and sports medicine. Key areas include resistance training effects on musculoskeletal health, ACL injury mechanisms, and aging-related muscle function. He has published over 355 peer-reviewed articles and 359 conference abstracts, with 47,990 Google Scholar citations (h-index 115).
Awarded for scientific contributions and invited to over 200 lectures globally. Supervised 32 PhD, 172 Master, and 148 Bachelor students. Teaches at universities in Denmark and internationally, including UC Berkeley, Rome, and Spain.
