Dr. Penny Neyland is an Associate Professor in Biosciences at Swansea University, specializing in community ecology and conservation. She leads research on ecosystem services, restoration ecology, and carbon sequestration, with projects in Welsh peatlands, Gambian mangroves, and the Biophilic Wales initiative. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules including botany, marine ecosystems, and fieldwork methodologies. Currently serves as Head of the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Her research focuses on plant-pollinator interactions, coastal ecosystem resilience, and restoration strategies. She collaborates with industrial partners and has secured grants totaling £163,307.52 for peatland and mangrove restoration projects. Supervises PhD and MRes students on topics like salt marsh resilience and blue carbon projects.
Publications highlight innovative methods like DNA metabarcoding for pollinator networks and employer-led educational frameworks. Engages in outreach through Step Up to Swansea and conferences on fieldwork enhancement.
