معرفی
Professor Penny Martens is Deputy Dean of Graduate Research and a Professor at the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering at UNSW Sydney. Her expertise lies in polymer synthesis and characterization, particularly for biosynthetic hydrogels in biomedical applications. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado (2002) and has been at UNSW since 2003.
Education: PhD (Chemical Engineering, University of Colorado, 2002), MS (Chemical Engineering, University of Colorado, 2000), BS (Engineering Physics, Loras College, 1997).
Research focuses on hydrogel systems for cell encapsulation, neural interfaces, and diabetes applications. She has pioneered work on PVA-based hydrogels and conductive polymers. Awards include the 2009 NSW Young Tall Poppy Science Award.
Teaching roles include coordinating courses like BIOM9410 (Regulatory Requirements), GSOE9400 (Engineering Research Essentials), and BIOM9332 (Biocompatibility). She supervises projects in biomaterials and tissue engineering, including Rebecca Sehnert (PhD) and Mihee Shin (PhD).
Publications span 74 journal articles, 8 book chapters, and patents in biomaterials science. Her work emphasizes translational research, blending polymer chemistry with biomedical device development.
