Garrett McGuinness

Dr. Garrett McGuinness is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Dublin City University, where he leads a research program in biomaterials engineering and medical device development. His work focuses on functional biomaterials, tissue regeneration, and polymer manufacturing. He has held visiting roles at US universities and previously worked in industry at Hollister Incorporated and MCS International. McGuinness holds a BE in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Polymeric Composite Materials from National University of Ireland, Galway.

His research emphasizes polymeric biomaterials, wound healing hydrogels, and vascular tissue engineering. He is Principal Investigator on the EU-funded PANBioRA project, addressing biomaterial risk assessment. McGuinness has supervised 10 doctoral students and reviewed for leading biomedical journals and funding agencies. He is a Chartered Engineer and active member of Engineers Ireland.

Key contributions include developing PVA-based hydrogels for wound care, electrospun scaffolds for vascular applications, and biomimetic adhesives for implants. His work integrates computational mechanics, material synthesis, and clinical applications.
