Peng Zhang

Dr. Peng Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Managerial Economics at the Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University, where she has been affiliated since August 2018. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Cambridge in July 2018.

Her research focuses on Development Economics, Applied Microeconomics, Labour Economics, and Investment Strategy in Africa. She specializes in analyzing market development through product availability, transport costs, and policy interventions in developing economies.

Key research trends include: 1) Historical fiscal policy analysis using UK data (1820-1913) to test the Redistribution Hypothesis; 2) Empirical studies on transport costs and consumer goods variety in Ethiopia, introducing models of income, price, and variety effects; and 3) Policy-oriented investigations into constraints like infrastructure, information, and distribution networks affecting market penetration.
