Penelope Pickers is a Research Fellow at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Environmental Sciences and the Centre for Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. She leads the Atmospheric Oxygen Measurements Laboratory and is a member of the National Centre for Atmospheric Science. Her research focuses on atmospheric O₂ measurements to study carbon cycle processes, including ocean-atmosphere CO₂ exchange and fossil fuel emissions. She holds a BSc in Oceanography (University of Southampton), MSc in Climate Change (UEA), and PhD in Environmental Sciences (UEA).
Key projects include the PARIS and POLYGRAM initiatives, as well as the OXY-MOBILE project developing mobile atmospheric measurement tools. She has contributed to the Global Carbon Budget 2018 and collaborated on studies quantifying fossil fuel emissions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Teaching includes guest lectures on 'The Carbon Cycle and Climate Change' and 'Modern Methods in Air Pollution Science'. Administrative roles include Chair of the Researchers' Affairs Forum (2017-2020).
Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly climate action and clean energy. Research outputs span 16 peer-reviewed articles, with recent focus on oxygen-based emission tracking, instrument validation, and boreal forest flux dynamics.
