Penelope Harvey is a Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester (2000–present), with prior roles at the University of Oslo (2012–2019) and University of Liverpool (1985–1990). Her work bridges ethnographic fieldwork with critical analyses of infrastructure, governance, and technology.

Her research spans large-scale infrastructures (e.g., roads in Peru, big data in the UK), nuclear decommissioning, and knowledge politics. Projects include grants from the ESRC and BNFL Endowment Fund.
