Pei Jee Ng is a renowned cello performer and Cello Lecturer, currently serving as Principal Cello of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) since May 2023. Previously, he was Co-Principal Cello of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (2015–2022). Known for his solo and chamber music collaborations, he has performed with major orchestras worldwide, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony. He is a member of the Fournier Trio, recipients of the 2013 Parkhouse Award, and has garnered prestigious awards such as the Young Classical Artists Trust (2008) and Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year (2001).
Ng began cello studies in Adelaide with Barbara Yelland and Janis Laurs before pursuing advanced training in the UK under Hannah Roberts, Ralph Kirshbaum, and later at the Royal Academy of Music with Jo Cole, Sung-Won Yang, and Thomas Brandis. He received the Queen’s Commendation for Excellence upon graduation.
His instrument collection includes cellos by JB Vuillaume and a specially commissioned JF Wright (2020). Ng’s career highlights include solo performances of Shostakovich’s Concerto No. 1 and Elena Langer’s 'The Dong with a Luminous Nose' with the RSNO. He has also collaborated extensively with pianist Chiao-Ying Chang, earning the Libero Lana Prize in Trieste (2011).
