Dr. Pei-Chun Ko is a sociologist specializing in ageing, health, and intergenerational relationships at Monash University's School of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on social and economic participation of older adults, family dynamics, and sociocultural contexts in Asia and Australia. She holds a PhD from the University of Cologne, Germany, and previously worked at the National University of Singapore and Singapore University of Social Sciences.
Dr. Ko's research examines aging families, life course perspectives, and social networks, with notable contributions to journals like Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences and Social Science & Medicine. She co-edited a special issue on 'Contextualizing Productive Aging in Asia' (2019) and serves as associate editor for Journal of Family Studies. Current roles include Chief Investigator for Australia's Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme evaluation.
Her work addresses global aging challenges, including loneliness, technology use during crises, and policy impacts on intergenerational support. Awards include the Next Generation Sociologists Grant (2014) and a German Research Foundation-funded PhD scholarship (2011). She actively engages in public discourse on aging issues via media contributions.
