Pedro Meira Monteiro is the Arthur W. Marks '19 Professor of Spanish and Portuguese and Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Princeton University. He teaches courses on literature and society with a focus on Brazil, exploring topics ranging from fiction and poetry to politics and citizenship.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in Literary Theory and History from Universidade Estadual de Campinas
- DEA in Socio-Cultural History from Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines
- M.A. in Sociology and B.A. in Social Sciences from Universidade Estadual de Campinas
His research focuses on Brazilian cultural history, literature, and identity formation, working at the intersection of cultural history and literature. He co-founded Princeton's Brazil LAB and has curated major cultural events including Flip (International Literary Festival of Paraty).
His recent publications explore themes of cultural identity, modernity, and Brazilian literature in global contexts, with a focus on historical narratives and cultural transformations in Ibero-American societies.
