Pedro Freitas

Pedro Freitas is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and a researcher at the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law (CEID). His work bridges Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, and Technology and Law, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, Data Protection, and Cybersecurity.

He holds a PhD in Public Legal Sciences (Criminal Law) from Universidade do Minho (2016), a Master’s in Judicial Law (2011), and a Law degree from the same institution (2005). His research spans topics like deepfakes, AI regulation, and digital human rights, contributing to multidisciplinary dialogues on legal technology.

Recent publications, including works on the AI Act and cyberterrorism, highlight his engagement with evolving legal frameworks. He has participated in projects such as NETLANG (online discrimination analysis) and LookCrim (organized crime investigation). Pedro Freitas actively collaborates with networks in Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, and Rule of Law.
