Pearlie Chong, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine. She serves as Director of the Stem Cell Transplant and Hematological Malignancies Infectious Diseases Program. Dr. Chong earned her medical degree from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University in Canada, followed by residency training in internal medicine at Lehigh Valley Health Network, and fellowship training in infectious diseases at Georgetown University and transplant infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic. She also holds a master's degree in clinical research from the University of North Carolina.
Her research focuses on infections in transplant patients, gut microbiome dynamics, gastrointestinal infections, and antibiotic treatment strategies. She has published extensively on topics such as norovirus in immunocompromised hosts, invasive fungal infections in transplant recipients, and the pharmacodynamics of antibiotics like daptomycin.
Dr. Chong is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in infectious diseases and holds professional affiliations including Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and membership in the American Society of Transplantation. Her work emphasizes translational research bridging clinical practice and public health, with a focus on improving outcomes for transplant patients through targeted infection prevention strategies.
