Paweł Urbanik

Paweł Urbanik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Language and Literature at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). His research focuses on conversation analysis, multimodality in interaction, forensic linguistics, and second language pragmatics. He examines how grammar, gesture, and material resources contribute to meaning-making in spoken language, with particular attention to cross-linguistic comparisons between Norwegian and Polish. His work also addresses legal communication in police interviews and workplace interactions involving non-native speakers.

Urbanik holds a PhD in linguistics from NTNU (2017). His research projects include studies on second language communication in workplace settings (e.g., construction sites) and the role of procedural knowledge sharing in manual work environments. He has contributed to improving police interview practices for suspects with limited proficiency in Norwegian through collaborative projects like NorPol.

His publications span academic journals and book chapters, addressing topics such as gesture-speech alignment, forensic communication challenges, and the sociocognitive analysis of linguistic particles. He actively engages in outreach, offering training for police investigators and interpreters on effective communication strategies in legal and multilingual contexts.
