Pavel Šatra is a doctoral candidate at Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Germany, pursuing a PhD in the Doctoral Program Democracy Under Stress. His research focuses on autocracies’ delegation preferences to international human rights organizations, with interests in authoritarian regimes, legitimacy, sanctions, and mixed methods. Previously, he served as a student research assistant in the Parliamentary Democracy in Europe project (2015–2016) and at the Global Governance Unit of the WZB Berlin Social Science Center (2014–2016).
Education: Current PhD candidate at Leuphana University. Earlier work included research roles at the WZB.
Research Interests: Pavel’s work examines how authoritarian regimes engage with international institutions, particularly human rights bodies. His mixed-methods approach bridges theoretical questions about international authority and practical analysis of legitimacy dynamics in autocratic contexts.
