Dr. Pavel Karataev is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, Royal Holloway, University of London, affiliated with the John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science and the Centre for Particle Physics and Astronomy. He joined Royal Holloway as a Lecturer in 2007 and has since led pioneering initiatives in accelerator physics and beam diagnostics. His research focuses on charged particle beam diagnostics, coherent radiation generation, and applications in future Linear Colliders. Key projects include leadership at CERN’s CLIC Test Facility (CTF3) for developing longitudinal bunch profile monitors using Coherent Diffraction Radiation (CDR).
Research Interests:
Dr. Karataev explores advanced diagnostics for particle beams, including Optical Diffraction Radiation (ODR) and Laser Wire monitors. He investigates Smith-Purcell radiation and coherent synchrotron/transition radiation for high-precision beam profiling. His work contributes to sustainable development goals through innovations in accelerator technology.
Grants & Projects:
- Principal Investigator for a CERN-based hardware project on longitudinal bunch profile monitoring.
- Co-Investigator in the John Adams Institute Core Grant (2025-2028) and AWAKE electron acceleration project.
- Collaborates internationally on projects at KEK (Japan), Tomsk Polytechnic University, and CERN.
Labs/Teams:
Active in the John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science, focusing on cutting-edge accelerator technologies and beam diagnostics.
