Paulo Mendes

Paulo Mendes is an Associate Professor at the University of Lusófona, where he directs the doctoral program in Informatics - New Media and Fuzzy Systems (NEMPS). Concurrently, he serves as an associate researcher at the ISTAR center at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Coimbra (2000–2004), conducted partly at Columbia University, a Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon (1997–1999), and a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering from the University of Coimbra (1988–1993).

His research integrates self-organizing networks, 5G/wireless systems, and mobile edge computing, with recent emphasis on LEO satellite routing and information-centric Metaverse architectures. His publications demonstrate consistent focus on network efficiency, opportunistic protocols, and human-centric systems.

Professional highlights include founding the COPELABS research center, co-founding startup Senception LDA, and memberships in ACM SIGCOMM/IEEE. He contributes to IETF/IRTF standardization and holds 13 international patents alongside 100+ publications.
