Pauline Snoeijs Leijonmalm is a Professor at Stockholm University's Department of Ecology, Environment and Botany. Her research focuses on biodiversity and food web interactions in marine ecosystems, with over 40 years of expertise in Baltic Sea systems (since 1982) and Central Arctic Ocean environments (since 2002). She currently leads two major Arctic research projects examining climate-driven ecological changes.
- Professor of Marine Ecology, Stockholm University (2008–present)
- Former Professor (2003–2007), Senior Lecturer (1993–2003), Researcher (1989–1993), and Doctoral Student (1982–1989) at Uppsala University
- BSc (1978) and MSc (1982) in Biology from Radboud University Netherlands
Key research areas include:
- Arctic Ocean biodiversity and food web dynamics
- Climate change impacts on sea ice and pelagic systems
- Baltic Sea coastal ecosystem interactions
- Microbial community responses to environmental stress
- Marine nutrient cycling and primary production
- UV radiation effects on planktonic organisms
Her recent publications (2022–2025) reveal critical insights into Central Arctic Ocean transformations, including microbial community structures, deep scattering layer ecology, and sea ice nutrient dynamics. Current projects emphasize climate-driven shifts in marine ecosystems and international Arctic governance frameworks.
