Professor Pauline Rose serves as Professor of International Education and Director of the Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Education. She is also a Senior Research Fellow (2015-2018) at the UK Department for International Development, with a career spanning roles at the EFA Global Monitoring Report and University of Sussex.

Her research focuses on educational inequality (gender and poverty), education financing and governance, non-state education provision, and international aid in education. She leads funded projects like the Mastercard Foundation-supported Secondary education in Africa today and Hewlett Foundation-funded Country-level theories of change, with fieldwork in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.
Recent publications analyze COVID-19 educational disruptions in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Ghana, scalable education interventions in Pakistan, gender norm challenges in Ethiopian schools, and STEM teacher motivation impacts on student achievement. Methodological innovations include participatory River of Life evaluations and longitudinal mixed-methods designs.
