Paulina Stokowska

Paulina Stokowska is a teaching assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk within the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia since 2019 and supervisor of the SPAW Student Research Group since 2020. Her artistic practice spans sculpture, drawing, and graphic arts with a focus on material experimentation and intuitive composition.

Her educational background includes studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław (2013-2015) followed by graduation from the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in 2018, where she majored in Sculpture.

Stokowska's research centers on the tension between contrasting materials—soft textiles versus hard metals—explored through series like "Stitching" and "Shittographs." Her process involves intuitive balancing of proportions, thread penetration through metal plates, and merging of paper/foil elements, creating what she describes as "diaries of moments" where material microcosms achieve harmonic completion. This material dialogue forms the core of her contemporary sculptural language.

Her 2024 output reveals intensified exploration of structural complexity across diverse media: paper folding in "Folds," metal-textile fusion in "Szytoryt," and experimental material combinations in "Relations," "Stones," and "Flatulence." These works demonstrate consistent thematic threads—material transformation, bodily references, and the interplay of fragility and permanence—while expanding into ceramic and patinated plaster territories.
