Paulien Strandberg is a Senior Lecturer at Lund University's Faculty of Engineering (LTH), specifically within the Division of Building Materials. She is actively engaged as a Profile Area member in both LTH's Circular Building Sector and Lund University's Nature-based future solutions initiatives. Her research focuses on biobased building materials derived from agricultural and marine resources, with particular expertise in hemp-lime composites.
Dr. Strandberg's research interests center on sustainable building materials, with special emphasis on biobased alternatives for construction. Her work spans material properties of hemp-lime composites, moisture management in bio-based insulation, historical building preservation using natural materials, and the application of agricultural residues in construction. Her research directly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable cities, responsible consumption, and climate action.
Analysis of her most recent publications reveals a strong focus on practical applications of biobased materials in building contexts, with particular attention to hygrothermal performance, moisture buffering capabilities, and energy efficiency. Her work bridges traditional building knowledge with modern sustainable construction needs, particularly in the Nordic climate context.
- Active Principal Investigator for HempFab Nordic project (2023-2025) funded by Vinnova
- Researcher on Power Bio project (2023-2026) focusing on bio-based materials
- Member of Urban Arena research network
- Deputy Chair for AG4 Klimatneutrala Byggmaterial LFM30 business cooperation
Dr. Strandberg collaborates extensively with Uppsala University Campus Gotland on historical building insulation projects and works with LTH's Structural Engineering division on bio-based insulation materials research. She has participated in numerous projects evaluating low-value biobased materials for interior wall systems and agricultural residual waste as building materials in Southern Sweden.
