Paula Saravia

Paula Saravia is an Assistant Teaching Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology at the University of Washington. Her work focuses on health disparities, environmental precarity, and indigenous medicine, particularly in Latin America. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego (2015), an M.A. from Linköping Universitet, Sweden (2008), and a Licenciatura from the Universidad de Chile (1999).

Her research examines structural inequalities in health outcomes, including studies on tuberculosis in Aymara communities and mental health impacts of environmental precarity in Northern Patagonia. She has conducted postdoctoral research at the Center for Intercultural and Indigenous Studies (CIIR), investigating infectious disease diagnosis and mental health in vulnerable communities.

Her advisory and grant activities include work on poverty reduction programs in Chile and global health processes. She teaches courses in medical anthropology and field research methods.
