Dr. Paula Longhi is a Reader in Dendritic Cell Biology at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) and the Biochemical Pharmacology Centre within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. She holds a Biochemistry degree from Buenos Aires University (2001) and a PhD from Cardiff University (2006), where her research focused on complement-mediated immunity against tumors and viral infections. After postdoctoral work with Ralph Steinman on dendritic cell (DC)-based vaccines, she joined WHRI in 2013 to investigate DC maturation’s role in immune regulation, targeting conditions like atherosclerosis and vaccine design.
Her research emphasizes defining molecular mechanisms of DC maturation to influence T-cell responses, with two main projects: identifying novel pathways in DC differentiation and studying metabolic reprogramming in vascular inflammation. She collaborates with institutions like McGill University and Harvard, and her work is supported by funders including the British Heart Foundation and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions.
