Dr. Paula Aucott is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Science & Health, School of the Environment and Life Sciences. She holds a PhD in Geography, MSc in Geographical Information Systems (Portsmouth), MA (Leicester), and undergraduate degree (Birmingham). Since joining Portsmouth, she has been a key member of the Great Britain Historical GIS Project team.
Research Focus: Her work spans Historical GIS development, administrative unit ontologies, historical gazetteers, land use change, and medieval landscape analysis. She specializes in creating long-term spatial datasets for statistical mapping and developing database systems for historical administrative hierarchies.
Publications: Her 36+ outputs show strong focus on historical geography (55%), political analysis (25%), and environmental studies (20%), with recent work on electoral patterns and climate impacts reflecting interdisciplinary expansion.
