Paula André is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon, where she holds a PhD in Architecture and a Master’s in Art History. She is a key academic leader, serving as Director of the PhD in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories and the Master’s in Architecture and Visual Culture. She is also a Professor in the Integrated Master’s in Architecture and the Master’s in Cultural Studies and Management, and an Integrated Researcher at DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte – Center for Studies on Socioeconomic Change and Territory.

Her research focuses on the theory and history of architecture and urbanism, urban dynamics and city policies in Lisbon, visual culture, photography, and cultural heritage. She explores the intersections between public art, propaganda, and urban identity, with case studies from Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, and several European countries.
Paula André leads significant research initiatives, including coordination of the FCT project Printed Photography. Image and Propaganda in Portugal (1934–1974), and participation in Exporting Portugal. Cultural diplomacy and the rebranding strategies of the Estado Novo in the United States (1933–1974). She also coordinates the Collaborative Laboratory: Urban Dynamics, Heritage, Arts, a multi-institutional research seminar involving 18 universities and research centers in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil.
She is a member of the Scientific Committee for the PhD in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories and the Department of Architecture and Urbanism. She also serves on the editorial boards of the journals ARA (University of São Paulo) and Cities, Communities and Territories (DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte), and is affiliated with the Association of Historians of Architecture and Urbanism (AhAU) and CHAIA-UE (Center for Art History and Artistic Research, University of Évora).
She has been featured in public lectures and media events, such as a session at the Beja Library on “The Ongoing Process of Public Art and Visual Culture,” highlighting her engagement in public scholarship and knowledge dissemination.
