Paul Veers is a Senior Research Fellow and Chief Engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), leading the National Wind Technology Center. He has dedicated over four decades to wind energy research, focusing on atmospheric turbulence simulation, fatigue analysis, reliability, structural dynamics, and aeroelastic tailoring of turbine blades.
- Education: PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University; Master’s and Bachelor’s in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His research bridges mechanical engineering and renewable energy, with a strong emphasis on improving wind turbine design requirements and operational resilience. Recent publications highlight trends in nanoscale science for clean energy, adaptive rotor technology, and statistical fatigue analysis.
- Scientific Awards: 1906 Award (2014), American Wind Energy Association Technical Achievement Award (2008), NREL Chairman’s Award (2018), and The Academy Scientific Award (2016).
Veers contributes to editorial and professional networks as Editor-in-Chief of Wind Energy, Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and Chair of the North American Wind Energy Academy.
