Paul Urbach

Paul Urbach is a Professor and Head of the Optics Research Group at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands. He has held these roles since January 2008.

• Member of the Optical Society of America, European Optical Society, and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics
• Former board member of the Royal Dutch Mathematical Society (1992–1996) and current member of the European Optical Society Board (since 2008)
• President-elect of the European Optical Society since autumn 2010

His research spans multiple branches of optics, including optical lithography, x-ray fluorescence, high numerical aperture imaging, and plasmonics. He has contributed to applications in integrated circuits, optical recording, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

He previously worked at Philips Research Laboratory (Eindhoven, Netherlands) as a principal scientist (1994–2000) and spent time at Signetics Research Laboratory (Sunnyvale, California) in 1980. His academic training includes a PhD in hydrodynamic propulsion from the University of Groningen (1986).
