He holds an Associate Professor rank and has been affiliated with the university since 2004. His research focuses on schizophrenia and glioblastoma, with a particular emphasis on molecular mechanisms, gene expression, and drug discovery. He has established collaborations across disciplines, including with psychiatrists, neuroscientists, and oncologists.
Education: PhD from the University of Newcastle (cancer biology), followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in the Practice of Tertiary Teaching.
Research Interests: Schizophrenia neurobiology, glioblastoma pathogenesis, immune system involvement in mental and neurological disorders, and translational drug development. Notable contributions include founding the Australian Schizophrenia Research Bank and leading studies on gene expression in brain and peripheral tissues.
Recent Trends in Articles: Focus on genomic insights into bipolar disorder, DNA repair mechanisms in glioblastoma, and molecular pathways in schizophrenia. Highlights include work on vasculogenic mimicry in brain tumors and polygenic risk scores for mental health disorders.
Awards: 1991 Australian Postgraduate Research Award. Grants and supervision include collaborations on brain cancer research and schizophrenia diagnostics.
Labs/Teams: Lead of the Experimental Therapeutics Stream at the Mark Hughes Foundation Centre for Brain Cancer Research, contributor to the Schizophrenia Research Institute.
