Paul Silverthorne

Paul Silverthorne is Professor of Viola at the Royal Academy of Music, where he mentors emerging performers. As Principal Viola of the London Symphony Orchestra (1991-2015) and London Sinfonietta (since 1988), he brings extensive orchestral expertise to pedagogy.

Performance research encompasses solo and chamber repertoire interpretation, historical performance practices, and contemporary techniques. Recordings showcase diverse repertoire from Beethoven arrangements to modern compositions across labels including Chandos, Naxos, and EMI.

Pedagogical focus includes technical mastery, ensemble communication, and career development for string players. Former students hold positions in major orchestras internationally.
