Dr. Scifleet earned his PhD in Information Systems from the University of Sydney, Australia, and has held visiting scholar positions at the University of Sheffield's Information School and the Royal School of Library and Information Science in Copenhagen. His academic journey includes research fellowships at Charles Sturt University's School of Information Studies.
Professor Scifleet's research centers on the socio-technical discourse framing information and data governance at societal levels, with three critical focus areas: digital asset management (including enterprise and personal information management), emerging information technologies' impact on human information behavior, and information governance in business and e-government contexts. He approaches his work from interpretative traditions of digital documentary practice, examining how changes in digital representation, identity, and human information behavior affect individuals, businesses, and government. His methodology emphasizes digital ethnography, content analysis, and qualitative research to understand information practices in contemporary digital environments.
His recent publications reveal strong interdisciplinary trends spanning information systems, human-computer interaction, environmental technology, and gender studies. The research consistently addresses complex socio-technical challenges at the intersection of information management and emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on explainable AI, digital self-tracking, and sustainable technology applications. His work demonstrates how information governance principles apply across diverse contexts from sports technology to greenhouse gas emissions monitoring.
