Paul Sarvis is a Senior Lecturer in Dance Performance Emeritus at Bowdoin College's Theater and Dance department. He specializes in teaching Dance Technique, Repertory, Choreography, and Dance History. His professional training integrates the Cecchetti ballet and Merce Cunningham techniques, alongside a background in Scottish folk dance.
Education: MFA from Goddard College.
As a performer, Sarvis has worked with notable companies such as Gloria Unti (San Francisco), Liz Lerman (Washington D.C.), June Finch and Debra Wanner (New York City), and Ram Island Dance Company (Maine). He co-founded Berg, Jones & Sarvis, a Portland-based trio known for large-scale site-specific works, collaborations with multidisciplinary artists, and performances in physical theater. Their projects include collaborations with choreographers like Renée Wadleigh and Ann Carlson.
Recent work includes the dance film Rooms, which has screened at prestigious venues like the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Dance on Camera Festival and international festivals in Europe, India, and Australia.
