Associate Professor Paul Ring has been at Northumbria University since 2005, leading the Architecture & Built Environment department. As author of the BA(Hons) and Pg Cert Interior Architecture programs, he specializes in creative reuse and heritage adaptation, focusing on authenticity in interior design. He co-leads the READ.ADAPT.REUSE. European research network (2024-2029), a transnational project involving 15 universities.
His academic leadership includes roles as former Director of Review in Engineering & Environment faculty, SCOSA Teaching Excellence Awards Committee member, and Secretary of Interior Educators. He collaborates with artists and designers on architectural competitions, urban interventions, and National Trust projects like Seaton Delaval Hall and Gibside.
Ring holds a BSc (Hons) and MA in Design Studies. His awards include Scottish Interior Designer of the Year (1997). Research outputs include REF2021 submissions on heritage adaptation and creative partnerships, alongside supervising PhD candidate Kathleen Gatward on adaptive reuse tactics for heritage buildings.
