Paul Readman is Professor of Modern British History at King's College London, with appointments in the Department of History and Faculty of Arts & Humanities. His research examines modern British cultural and political history with particular emphasis on:
- Landscape and national identity formation
- Historical pageants in 20th-century Britain
- Patriotism and politics
- Borderland histories
- Walking and historical practice
He leads major research projects including the AHRC-funded 'Redress of the Past: Historical Pageants in Britain, 1905-2016' which created a comprehensive database documenting over 650 pageants. His publications include award-winning monographs like 'Storied Ground: Landscape and the Shaping of English National Identity'.
He teaches courses on modern British history, nationalism, and historical methodologies, engaging in extensive public history initiatives including museum exhibitions and media appearances. Elected to the Council of the Royal Historical Society in 2018.
