Dr. Paul Corthorn is a Professor of Modern British History at Queen's University Belfast's School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. His research focuses on 20th-century British political history, Cold War dynamics, and Northern Ireland's political landscape. He has authored influential works on Enoch Powell and conservatism, including a 2019 Oxford University Press monograph. Currently leading an AHRC-funded project on 'Conservatism and Unionism in the UK, 1968-1997,' he also co-edits the Labour History Review. His teaching spans modules on Thatcher's Britain and contemporary British history.
Education: Universities of Cambridge and Durham. Awards include a QUB Teaching Award (2009) and Fellowship of the Royal Historical Society (2007). He has organized major conferences on Cold War history and served on national committees like History UK's Steering Committee.
Research interests blend political history with international contexts, emphasizing transatlantic relations and ideological movements. His recent publications analyze Ulster Unionist thought and Cold War-era British foreign policy, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to historical analysis.
